Fuel Filter Base Seal Kit For 6.6L Chevy Duramax Engines - AP0029

Alliant Power has released a kit (AP0029) used to reseal the fuel filter base on 6.6L Chevy Duramax engines. The purpose of this kit is to provide an option to repair, rather than replace, the fuel filter base. The kit will provide new lip seals for the hand primer, a new o-ring for the hand primer seal carrier, new o-rings for the fuel heater, a brass bleeder screw, and an o-ring for the bleeder screw.

The fuel supply system on the 6.6L Duramax engine is a suction type system. This means that a leaking fuel filter base will allow air to be pulled into the system. A leaking fuel filter base will not leak fuel externally. To diagnose a leaking fuel filter base, install a clear hose at the inlet and return of the fuel filter base. If solid fuel is going in and aerated fuel is coming out, the filter base is leaking. The fuel restriction after the filter should also be measured. A restricted fuel filter could cause cavitation in the line coming out of the filter base. This cavitation could be mistaken for aeration.

• The hand primer and the fuel heater assemblies are under spring pressure. Use care when removing these items.
• The seals for the hand primer must be installed in the correct orientation for proper hand primer operation (refer to the figure below). Refer to the instructions supplied with the kit for detailed installation information.
