- Where is my engine serial number located? For 1998.5-2002 Dodge (VP44) the engine serial number is on the data plate on the timing gear case on the driver's side of the vehicle. It is eight digits long and should begin with a 56 for Dodge vehicles.
- What do the different engine codes mean and which refer to a bad VP44 pump? Codes do not definitely tell you that an injection pump is bad, but rather act as a starting point for diagnosis. After a code is read a mechanic can perform additional tests to determine the injection pump is bad. You may also have a pump sent in for inspection and tested on a test bench.
